Moving to Jenks, Oklahoma: Schools, Neighborhoods & What to Expect
April 24, 2026 · Move That Stuff
Jenks has built one of the strongest reputations in the Tulsa metro, and it comes down to two things: the schools and the location. Sitting just south of Tulsa along the Arkansas River, Jenks offers a small-town feel with excellent amenities and a short drive to everything the city offers. If you're considering moving to Jenks, here's what you should know.
Why People Choose Jenks
- Jenks Public Schools — Consistently one of the top-ranked districts in Oklahoma. The district regularly wins state championships in academics, arts, and athletics. For families with school-age children, Jenks schools are often the deciding factor.
- The Arkansas River — Jenks sits right on the river, and the Riverwalk development has made that waterfront a real asset. Restaurants, trails, and the Oklahoma Aquarium are all within a short drive or walk.
- Community feel — Jenks has retained a small-town identity even as it's grown. The downtown core is walkable, events are well-attended, and neighbors actually know each other.
Jenks Neighborhoods to Know
- Downtown Jenks / North Jenks — Older, established homes within walking distance of Main Street. Smaller lots, more character. Great if you want to walk to local restaurants and events.
- East Jenks — Mix of established subdivisions and newer developments. Good access to Highway 75 for commuting north or south.
- South Jenks / Riverwalk area — Newer construction, larger homes, close to the river. Popular with younger families and people relocating from out of state.
- Gated communities — Jenks has several gated and HOA-managed communities, particularly in the south and along the river. These have specific access procedures for movers — we cover this below.
Jenks Public Schools: What Makes Them Different
The Jenks School District serves roughly 10,000 students across the city. The high school — Jenks Trojans — is famous across Oklahoma for its football program, but the academics are equally strong. The district offers AP, IB, and gifted programs, and its early childhood education has earned state recognition.
One important note: school district boundaries in the Jenks area can be tricky near the city limits. Some addresses that seem like they should be in Jenks are actually in Union or Tulsa school districts. Verify your specific address at the district's enrollment page before assuming you're in the Jenks attendance zone.
The Oklahoma Aquarium and Riverwalk
The Oklahoma Aquarium is one of the best kept secrets in the state — a world-class facility that draws visitors from across the region. Living in Jenks means it's essentially your neighborhood attraction. The Riverwalk Crossing development next door has restaurants, retail, and event space along the river. It's one of the nicest walkable areas in the entire metro.
Getting Around Jenks
Jenks is accessible primarily via Highway 75 (the Jenks-Sapulpa Highway running north-south) and 101st Street (connecting east to west across the metro). Downtown Tulsa is about 12 miles and 15–20 minutes north. South Tulsa and the Woodland Hills area are 10 minutes east. The Creek Turnpike (Highway 364) runs along the northern edge of Jenks and connects to I-44, making it easy to reach most of the metro.
Moving Tips Specific to Jenks
- Gated communities require advance notice — Several Jenks neighborhoods (particularly south Jenks and river-area developments) have controlled access. Call the HOA or property manager before your move to get gate codes and confirm parking for the moving truck.
- River Road is scenic but narrow — If you're moving into a home along the Arkansas River, some access roads are narrow and have weight limits. Confirm truck access before booking.
- Utilities — PSO handles electric in most of Jenks. Water is handled by the City of Jenks utility department — set up service through City Hall at least a week before your move.
- Mid-month moves — Many Jenks apartment complexes align leases with the first of the month. Moving mid-month or mid-week gives you better availability and often better rates.
Cost of Living in Jenks
Jenks is premium by Tulsa metro standards. Home prices reflect the school district and location:
- Established neighborhoods: $250,000–$400,000 for 3–4 bedroom homes
- River area and south Jenks: $400,000–$700,000+ for larger custom homes
- Apartments: 2-bedroom units typically run $1,100–$1,600/month
